I remember reading about self referencing and the mess of organizing the relationships associated with it. If this is a problem then it can simply be resolved by running a topological sort of the dependencies. As long as, there is no circular referencing, it'll be a directed acyclic graph, and the topological sorting will straighten things out without much problems.
