In general, the arguments put forward by critics of web2py are almost
entirely vacuous. The most that can be said of them, I think, is
that as criticism towards web2py increases, that can be taken as an
indication of its growth. Cute accusations like "exec is bad" or
"there is only one book" do not become any more true regardless of how
many times they are regurgitated. Of the detractors, nobody seems to
wonder why exec exists, or whether the reason only one book exists is
because it is comprehensive. Hence, I would recommend simply ignoring
the detractors, and focus on the technical quality of the work. In
the past, Python itself was frequently accused of bad design
("significant whitespace, WTF!", "one-line lambda, WTF!"). Indeed,
*all* languages have been criticized for something. That
misunderstandings exist is no reflection on quality whatsoever. And
I think you are being generous with the term "misunderstanding".
"Willful ignorance" might be better, in some of the exchanges I have
read.
