I would like to asure you that rpy and web2py are good friends ;) 
For me rpy2 and rpy works smoothly with web2py (from 1.74 - to 1.75.3) 
installed on different platforms (FreeBSD 7, Fedora 10 - 12, Mac OS X Leopard - 
SL) and with different python versions (from 2.5.1 to 2.6.4).
