That is now what I meant. You can bytecode with any layout. You cannot bytecode if the layout filename is stored in a variable instead of a contact because the layout is unknown until runtime.
for example {{extend 'mylayout.html'}} you can bytecode {{extend x}} you cannot bytecode compile because x is undefined at compile time.
