GOT IT.
I know it wouldn't be that hard!
I don't know what they are called or even if it is actually
documented. but on page 171 of the manual I found the line...
db.dog.owner.requires = IS_IN_DB(db, 'person.id', '%(name)s')
The last part is exactly what I needed to do to my IS_IN_DB feild
requirements.
