2) There should be a mechanism to accept donations. 3) There is no much profit on my side in selling the book and I try to reinvest those profits into web2py (I pay for google adwords, bought the trademark, hats for 2 pycon conferences). People have correctly pointed out that 2 and 3 should be separate. So far I have avoided setup a mechanism for accepting donations because I prefer donations of time (you can use to develop and learn web2py code) and work (contribute to web2py, translate docs, blog about it, etc.) more than monetary donations. Number of sold copies of the book is important mostly because it is an objective measure of the users' base. It tells me (and people I talk to) that there are hundreds of people willing to put some money behind web2py.
