If its in swf, it should work.
Although, I notice an error in the original snippet you posted
(besides the missing ' ):
{{url=URL(r=request,c='static',f='somefilename.swf)}}
Should be):
url={{URL(r=request,c='static',f='somefilename.swf')}}
