It is mentioned here <http://web2py.com/init/default/what>, but should be updated here <http://web2py.com/init/default/download> and in the first three chapters of the book. Note, these updates can be made via pull requests to https://github.com/web2py/web2py (for the website, which is the "examples" app in the Github repo) and https://github.com/web2py/web2py-book (for the book -- there are mentions of Python 2.7 in each of the first three chapters).
