I believe the query in question is:

query = (test2.type_marker=='object') | (test2.type_marker==None) & (test1.
type_marker=='person')
rows = current.db(query).select(test1.title, test2.title, left=test2.on(
test1.id==test2.granny))

So, there is a query being passed to db().
