[web2py] How do I make this button redirect to a controller function when enter is pressed?

          document.getElementById("search")
    .addEventListener("keyup", function(event) {
    event.preventDefault();
    if (event.keyCode == 13) {
        document.getElementById("searchbutton").click();
    }
});
</script>

I see that neither enter works nor search.text is correct at this context. 
How should I correct it?
