If you need to easily customise the running Python, yes.
The Windows distribution is convenient for simpler users (& can be
modified by including extra DLLs, but this is't as easy as using std
Python install methods)

When I release a desktop version of my app, I'll release it with a
customised Windows build for ease of install.

For development I always use latest Bzr trunk.
