Though I like typeahead because it highlight which letters have been found and where, but I it shouldn't be a requirement... I would move to semantic in the long run... I will try to give a try to your integration... I can share with you my integration of bootstrap 2.3.2 typeahead but twitter typeahead is different and the integration I did was mostly in javascript make use of callback and server side feeding, you seem have proceed differently. But let me know if you think it can bring you any clue.
