I found a previous thread that solved my issue. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/web2py/9_1ECdKHKUo/8OISg7o8OVIJ The search bar does not behave as most users would expect. The ability to type multiple words into the search, but not be considered a valid query is problematic. My changes to css had obscured the 'invalid query' text. I do like the query builder search functionality, but the search bar really should behave in a way that normal users would expect.
