If you use response.static_version, as the admin application does, you need 
to configure apache differently.

In:

For example, in Apache, change this:

AliasMatch ^/([^/]+)/static/(.*)    
/home/www-data/web2py/applications/$1/static/$2

into this:

AliasMatch ^/([^/]+)/static/(?:_[\d]+.[\d]+.[\d]+/)?(.*)    
/home/www-data/web2py/applications/$1/static/$2
