Got it to work. Went into System Preferences - Security & Privacy under the
General tab and selected Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere.

I only needed to do this on my MacBook Air when I got the "damaged file"
message. On my MacBook Pro it refused to open the application from an
unidentified application developer and you can go to the same place in Security
& Privacy to allow an individual app to launch. That exercise gave me the idea
to try changing the security on my MacBook Air. Version 2.7.4 seems to run
fine on both devices now. I believe this security feature is new to OS X 10.9
Mavericks. The "damaged file" message really threw me off the path for awhile.
