I think this might not be a good assumption.

It might apply better to people who claimed to _own_ an appliance, and run a
repository (or hand off to someone).

For community FAQ contributions, I think you encourage people to contribute,
and then not assume they will be "owner, around forever"  (and keep the post
up to date).... if you did that, I think you would get one of 2 things: many
fewer contributions, or (what is now) information that you can't tell if
it's up to date, or when / what it was last checked.

For alter ego / FAQ, I think "last checked against version" would help the
community take care of itself, judge how current info is (and allow them to
update version checked against)...
