Personally, I don't like the way php is built.  That's why I choose
python.  It's syntax is better to me.  Web2py is nice because you can do so
much in such a little amount of time. When I worked with Symphony I felt it
was slow and bulky.  But slow is relative to the project.
Choosing a framework is a balance between what you know what what needs to
be done.
I could tell you assembly is the great for web programming cause it is
fast, and I would be told it takes too long to develop.
I personally ONLY use web2py for my development of web and server
applications. Web2py makes a great daemon with a webservice frontend.
But that doesn't mean I shouldn't know php, ruby, or others.  It he
collection of knowing and trying lots of frameworks that lets you know the
one your really best at.
I recommend your team try web2py for some project.  Something small.  It's
they only way they can really know for themselves.  They could make
something internal if they want too.
