We have talked about move to mercurial on and off for a year;

Last year I started mirroring to bitbucket.org (where, among other things,
sphinx is hosted).

This year after PyCon, the Python project announced also moving to
mercurial.

Meanwhile (at work) I was part of watching a move to git, and tried to talk
about distributed version systesms; after, I still prefer hg.

This week, Google code announced adding mercurial as an scm option; Massimo
already has web2py on google code (mirrored). Additionally, Guido Von
Rossum's Rietveld code review system (which works, among other things, with
hg) is a google code project, writtne in django specifically for GAE.
Immediately, we should be able to add code reviews to code hosted on
google. In the future, we may port Rietveld to web2py and extend. This
would also be nice to host on GAE for public projects (we2py and
applications, for example), as well as make easily available for private /
corporate servers. (Rietveld already runs off GAE thru a GAE "shim"
developed by a user for django).

I'd say this has already been decided - by circumstances.

This week, Massimo announced that web2py will move to hg within 2 months.

Hg on Google code should be publicly available after Google I/O conference
in May (it is in beta now).
