So I found a workaround.

The alias directive should be as follows:
"Alias / /<web2py's home>/applications/<your specific app>/static/"

This allows the web2py code to run properly and still allow .svg
images to be correctly given to the client with the proper image/svg
+xml header.

The problem I have with this is I'd like to manipulate the xml
contained within the .svg with web2py.

Is an email to the author in order?
