This istruction doesn't work:
records=db(db.names.surname.like('%(form.vars.surname')).select()

but why?
I would want to select all the records in db.names whose surname
begins with the content of form.vars.surname.
E.g.
form.vars.surname='cli'
result:
'clinton'
'clio'
'clippers'

better, my desire would be to filter the records of db.names that
"contain" the string in form.vars.surname.
For "cli" it would be:
'clio'
'freeclimbing'
etc.

but how?
