Yes - but IRC serves different function - online live discussion.... help "hey, could you see if you get the same trouble with this code as I am? THanks!" I think an IRC could be a useful way (also) to have a meeting to discuss the next T2 plugin / project, and agree on starting definitions, and branch names..... (the results of that meeting can make a useful post here, or on launchpad)...
There are more things IRC is useful for... I think we just haven't hit that point where IRC will serve us yet... But if you ARE wanting a meeting about your favorite project (say, Amy) announce when you'll be online here - other's may enjoy dropping in.... We'll get to using it eventually!
