I agree Over 15 years ago when working in Microsoft Foxpro I had access to libraries that did fulltext indexing so that the like searches were fantastically fast and also provided the ability to do soundex type searches (which are sooo useful when reducing duplication of things like peoples names) There is some difficulties in implementing fulltext indexing as language differences mean operators on the index can be a bit tricky.
Because GAE use to be appspot I wonder if they are simply trying to gauge usage of the datastore (however this is chicken and egg stuff) if the feature doesn't exist how can we prove that it would be useful. Full text has also been available in Sql server and MySQL for years...anyhoo I guess we should post these sorts of request on the GAE chat group.
