I never could understand why Malcolm Tucker could not make a phone call. Certainly, the entire town of Mayberry was not on one single party line. All Andy would have had to do was to take Mr. Tucker to someone else's house to make the call. If this scenario is right, it would mean that anytime someone in Mayberry was using their phone, no one else in town could make a call.
