Every time we hit a heat spell I cannot help but think about the people of Mayberry who always seem to wear long-sleeved shirts and ties and even suits, even when the weather was very hot.
The one occasion that really comes to mind is when Andy, Aunt Bee, Opie, and Goober were returning to Mayberry after attending the Auto Show in Raleigh. I never could understand why they would all be wearing their dark suits while riding in a convertible for a long trip home. Why wear suits just to return to Mayberry? Being the owner of a number of convertibles, I know first hand that you do not want to be wearing a suit when riding in a convertible with the top down on a hot summer day. Andy did the same thing when he borrowed Aunt Bee's car to go to Raleigh to meet with the lady lawyer.
