I thought I'd write-up my nominations for Best Performance by a Guest Star in a black & white episode (one appearance):
1. ROBERT EMHARDT - "Man in a Hurry" 2. BARBARA EDEN - "The Manicurist" 3. DON RICKLES - "The Luck of Newton Monroe" But in my opinion, the winner is: BUDDY EBSEN in "Opie's Hobo Friend". He was great. And, for Best Performance by a Guest Star in a black & white episode (more than one appearance), my nominations are: 1. JACK PRINCE - Rafe Hollister (3 episodes) and as other characters in 2 more episodes. 2. ALLAN MELVIN - various roles in 7 episodes 3. DENVER PYLE - Briscoe Darling (6 episodes) Another tough one, but I'd have to give the nod to the one and only HOWARD MORRIS as Ernest T. Bass (6 episodes). Hard to believe that this comic genius never was nominated for an Emmy award for this role.
