Ken, I often have the same response when viewing some scenes in
Mayberry. In our family (I was the oldest of 7 kids) you weren't allowed
outside unaccompanied till you were 5yo. But that was about the only
real restriction. As you said, it was a different time and we didn't
hear about pedophiles around every corner. We walked to the dimestore on
our own by the age of 7 and felt perfectly safe. I began babysitting for
neighbors at the age of 10; I wouldn't hire a 10yo today to do anything
LOL! It's a whole different world today. I put that new sticker on the
back of my van that says Make America Mayberry Again and have gotten
many positive reactions even from young folks. Would that we could!!!
