As I have stated in the past while I am certainly no Ken Anderson, I do have a
1961 Squad Car that me and my wife enter in many Parades and Car Shows here in
West Tennessee. Our area parades are much more--shall we say Mayberrian--than
our car shows. I guess it has to do with the flashing bubble light, the siren,
and the music that plays as we drive along the parade route. You just have to
see this car in drastic action to get the full benefits!

A week ago we participated in the West Tenn. Strawberry Festival Parade and one
of the announcers said there were about 20,000 folks lined up watching. I don't
know if there were that many, but a lot of them instantly recognized our squad
car and shouted out "Where's your bullet, Barney?"

Yes I do wear the full deputy uniform. But I must let it be known--I only look
like a deputy and act like a deputy--while driving in the parades. I try to get
all of the folks that ride along with us to dress up as a character from the
show. So far about all I have are folks wearing deputy hats and a Goober cap.
But during our largest Christmas Parade I do get a friend of mine to ride along
in his full 'Sheriff Andy' uniform. On days when it is just me and my wife, we
have a couple of mannequins in the back seat. One is dressed as Motorcycle
Barney, and the other as Ernest T. Bass (in a black and white striped prisoner
outfit).

And we do hand out tickets from the 'Mayberry Sheriff Department Ticket
Division'. You would not believe some of the violations that are listed on our
tickets! I will save those for another post.

10-4--and wishing I was in Indiana this weekend for Mayberry in the Midwest and
the Squad Car Nationals!
