On Sunday I was a special guest at a car show that was 75 miles from home.
They were so happy to have Barney at their show. They would not take any
admission fee and they refused to let me pay for lunch. They had a special
spot all set up for our car. Part of my duty was to select a car of my
choice and then present The Barney Fife Trophy to the winner. When the
time came to present the trophy, I looked at the engraving and it said,
"The Barney Fif Trophy". I burst out laughing and then procedure to tell
everyone how Barney got so upset when the newspaper always got his name
wrong and called him Fike. Then I told them about the bank robber calling
him Fize. So I said that to honor Barney like that I would now present the
winner with the Barney Fif Trophy. After the show was over the winner of
the Barney Fif Trophy came over to thank me. It turns out he is a retired
police officer, so it was fitting for him to win.

At one time a group of ten people from an adult group home came to see the
car. I have never seen such a happy group despite their obvious
developmental challenges. They all wanted badge stickers and they enjoyed
hearing the siren and seeing the light. Then one of the men began to tell
us how The Andy Griffith Show came on the air in October of 1960 and ran to
1968. He could name the cast members and he knew so much about the show.

On Saturday we spent six hours outside in the 90 degree heat at a car show
and then I walked a long parade dressed in my full uniform. One of the
hottest parades I have walked, but it was worth it to see everyone enjoying
our antics so much.
