Dewey, for sure there were quite a few names from the Bible on TAGS. For
instance the cow thief Luke Jensen. Luke was certainly a Bible name, but is
Andy saying Luke or Lute? But it is a little hard to pin down because the
names were only pronounced, and not written down, so we don't know for sure
just exactly what the names were. For instance, during the episode about the
Class Reunion, Andy and Barney meet Nate Bracey. As a matter of fact, Andy
says Nate Bracey's name several times. But without seeing Nate's birth
certificate, or talking to him, we are unsure if the man's name really was
Nate, or if Nate was only a nickname for Nathanael, which appears in the
Bible. Some people think they are naming their children after characters in the
Bible, but later find out they have made a mistake. The most famous example
of this practice was Oprah Winfrey's mother, who meant to name her daughter
after Naomi's daughter-in-law, Orpah, but she misspelled her name. The most fa
mous TAGS alumni whose name was Biblical, was of course Gomer. Gomer was
both a man and a woman in the Bible. Two different people. Orville
Hendricks - Mount Pilot Butter and Egg Man. Another little bit of trivia on
Orpah, according to Jewish literature, Orpah was the mother of Goliath, whom
David slew.
