As you all know last weekend I attended my 50 year high school reunion. I
grew up in a very small village and my classmates and I went through all
12 years of school together. We were at each other's homes frequently and
we took part in all our village activities for all those years. More kids
joined us as we entered high school yet our class remained a very close
knit group.

I was so excited to had been asked to give my Mayberry presentation at our
reunion. I spent many hours revising it to make it very special and more
pertinent to our class. Those at the reunion seemed to enjoy it very much
and several friends made some nice comments. My wife had placed one of my
Mayberry Guru cards at each place setting and I was hoping that some would
contact me after the reunion to just get a little more reacquainted. One
of those in attendance was a cousin who I had not seen since high school
graduation.

Well, I am sorry to say that I have not heard a word from one single person
who was at the reunion. I thought maybe a few might send me a short email
thanking me for doing the presentation. When I was asked to give the
presentation I was asked how much I charged. I told my classmate that I
would not charge anything as I always give my fee to our hometown library.
I asked if they would be willing to do that. She said they would certainly
make a donation to the library. However, nothing was said at the reunion
about a donation and I have not heard a word since. In fact the person who
arranged for me to speak never said a word after the presentation and did
not say good-bye when she left.

So needless to say, "The tears on my pillow bespeak the pain that is in my
heart."

However, on Monday I will be doing my presentation at a beautiful new
Veterans Home in a nearby city. I have personalized it to include a
special tribute to all the veterans. Then in October I will be traveling
about 100 miles to do my presentation at a large banquet for a Lions Club
District Convention.

I know those groups will be very enthusiastic and appreciative, as I have
spoken to both groups in the past and it was just wonderful.
