Ken that one made me cry. Even at the "young" age of 44 I see the same thing in
my home town. The 2 Drug stores with the old soda fountains that I visited
every Saturday, the Five & Dime, Hardware & Sporting goods store along with all
the others are all gone. The buildings are empty or have something in them that
nobody cares about. The movie theater is still there and doing good and there
are a couple of places to eat and a couple of bars. When I take my kids (12 & &
7 years old) to the movie there we sometimes will walk through the town and
they will ask me "what used to be in that building". I enjoy the little trip
down memory lane but it also make me very sad and I tell them take a good look
at what's left because when you are my age it will all be gone too. I have only
had a few of my class mates and teachers pass but many of my friends that I
knew so well and were so important to me were a lot older than me and they are
gone now, some for a long time. You are right it's great
to know we can always visit Mayberry where things never change and our old
friends are always there to make us smile.
