>Whether it be day or night, Otis is mostly seen wearing coat and tie.
Well Dewey, considering the time frame, early 60s (I know, don't tell me the
show was set to an earlier time), men wore suits to work, or at least a nice
button down shirt and tie with their dress pants (Dockers didn't hit the market
til the 70s/80s.) If you worked where you wore a lab coat or a jump suit, you'd
change at work. In 75 I worked at a research lab and had a lab coat with my
name engraved on the pocket. We had lockers in the hallways next to the
restrooms which were equipped with showers.
Notice on Donna Reed show, Alex Stone wore suits all the time, even though he
was a doctor, He'd change his suit jacket to his doctor coat once he started
work. Jim Anderson on Father Knows Best would come home, take off his suit
jacket, hang it up in the hall closet (not his bedroom closet) and put on his
"evening" jacket for dinner at home.
Even Barney made up an excuse for not having on a suit when he popped in at
Andy's house during dinner unexpectedly.
That's just the way men dressed back then, like women who wouldn't leave the
house without their matching shoes and purses and their hat and gloves.
Sigh, I miss those days, of when people took care of their appearance, unlike
today with droopy drawers and bra straps showing. Sad....
