As I grow older, I find that my memory is starting to slip. Things that I
could have sworn happened, others say did not happen. That was what I was
thinking as I read Ken's posting about Andy and Barney. There were different
stories and memories about how long Andy and Barney had known each other. Ken
says they were in the 2nd grade together, but in the episode "Andy and Opie's
Pal", Barney says they have been friends since the 4th grade. There is
another mis-remembering in that episode. Barney says that Andy escorted the
Apricot Queen around Mayberry on "23 June 1952, Saturday afternoon".
Actually June 23, 1952 was on a Monday.
As for Andy's story about Hodie Snitch, I have always considered that story to
be apocryphal, a story (that did not actually happen) told to illustrate a
point to Opie. I mean, come on, who has a name like Hodie Snitch?
Orville Hendricks - Your Friendly Butter and Egg Man. Martha tells me all the
time that if my memory gets any worse, next Easter I can just hide my own eggs.
