I was listening to a comedy album by Roy D. Mercer this afternoon and noticed two Mayberry references (I'm a trained noticer). For them that don't know, Roy D. Mercer is a character created by two radio hosts from Tulsa named Phil and Brent. Their routines usually involve Roy D. Mercer (who speaks with an exaggerated Southern drawl) making a prank phone call. Hilarious stuff, but Aunt Bee would never approve of their uncouth language. Anyway, today I heard a routine called "Beantown Boater" which involved someone named Hasty Burford. Trained noticers will remember that in "Divorce Mountain Style" Charlene complained that Dud spent a lot of time with a hunting buddy named Hasty Burford. You can hear this routine on Youtube if you've a mind to (search for Roy Mercer Boat Splinter), but be warned that it contains crude language.
I also did a quick search for the name Hasty Burford and discovered that there was a 2004 short film entitled Dixie County Line with a character named Hasty Burford. Surely both of these projects were written by fans who had heard the name mentioned on TAGS. The other TAGS reference was in another Roy D. Mercer bit (Zeerox the Myna Bird -- also available on Youtube) about a bird who, among other skills, could whistle The Andy Griffith Theme.
