I did another Mayberry presentation today for 130 Senior Nutrition Volunteers
at LaCrosse, WI. They were such a delightful group. We get into some very
interesting discussions afterwards. One older gentleman asked me about Opie's
mother. When I told her she was only mentioned one time briefly and that it is
assumed she died when Opie was very young. He looked at me and said, "Oh, I
always thought she ran away with a circus." He was dead serious. I used very
good restraint and did not laugh at him. One woman there said her
brother-in-law is a big Mayberry fan with an entire room decorated with
Mayberry collectibles. She said he has autographs and many valuable items.
His name is Glen Sharpe and he lives in Georgia. She thought he might be a
member of our growing family here on the Digest. Does that name mean anything
to anyone? Also this week, a LT. with our city police department sent me a
picture of two officers back in 1965 with their black and white 1965 Ford squad
car. He was going to try to send me more if he could find some in their
archives. He said they looked just like mine except they had a large siren on
the front fender.
