On Saturday I spend nearly seven hours at a big car show with more than 250
classic cars. So I was able to spread a lot of Mayberry cheer to many folks
both young and old. I have made a stuffed dummy to have sitting in my back
seat. Now there are two dummies in my car. I made him look like a rough
Moonshiner. I was trying to find a jug like Briscoe Darling had but I didn't
have much luck. Not until the car show, that is. They had a few vendors
selling flea market items, and wouldn't you know it, an old guy had a perfect
ceramic jug that was just like what I was looking for. So I bought it and
placed it on the lap of my dummy in the back seat. He was an instant hit. In
fact I was interviewed by a Public TV Station and they taped the car and shot
some tape of my back seat dummy who I have named Ralph Henderson. I put a
picture of him on my first page of my website if you would like to see him.
Just go to www.mayberryreflections.com and scroll down the pictures. A retired
officer from our city police department talked to me and told me that back in
1965 the Eau Claire Police used cars just like mine. He gave me the name of an
officer who should be able to get a picture of one of them for me. That would
be great to have for comparisons. Two car shows and a parade next week. Tuesday
I travel about 100 miles to do my Mayberry presentation for 130 volunteers at a
Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Should be fun.
