Not only that show but remember Wendy and Me? With George Burns and Connie
Stevens (I think it was her). Wendy lived in a high rise apartment complex and
George hung out in the hallway and talked to the camera telling the story of
Wendy's goings on. Mr. Burns was famous for his "fourth wall" talking and we
all bless his beautiful heart for it.
Another TAGS example would be when Opie says to himself, "I'll have to talk to
Johnny Paul Jason about that." But if we include talking to ourselves there's
alot of that going on in Mayberry. Otis saying "What a mess of my life I've
made." in response to Aunt Bee, the Warden. And when he says "I thought they'd
never leave." Floyd telling himself in the mirror he's a deceitful wretch.
What about when Barney is gassed and comments about the jail's water crock
needing a good cleaning? Prayer wouldn't count, would it? (Opie asking to win
the medal).

old wives tale"...."Johnny Paul ain't married"........
