Ken, When I was about 13 I went frog giggin' with my cousin and his friends who
lived down in the country. A frog gig is a 3 pronged fork (the middle time is
slightly longer) on a pole about the length of a shovel or rake. Think of
Neptune's trident. We camped out next to a farm pond and when it got dark we
got flashlights and set out in the 2 john boats we had. We rowed along the
shore shining the lights on the bank. When you spot a bull frog you throw the
gig and impale the frog. We caught a burlap sack full of frogs and the next
morning had a nice fire and fried eggs and frog legs. I just couldn't get
myself to eat one of those poor frog's legs and haven't been able to in the
last 40+ years either.
That was my one experience frog giggin'.
