You know this episode was something on several levels. One the friendship between barney and andy. Andy wants to help barney not get taken. That banter on the front porch is just priceless: "you're a good son." Second how easy someone could be taken because who would suspect a little old woman. And thirdly, how barney goes off the deep end with buying, it breaking down, and finding the car theft ring. I truly think andy thought the. Car would make it but they would need a way back. While it is a quirk in the story it helps with the teeling since this way they get towed right into the garage. Hope this helps.
