Wow, Loren really went the extra mile in figuring out the keys of the two
versions of the TAGS theme. I too had noticed that the intro and outro were
slightly different; if you watch TAGS on DVD and use the "play all" feature,
you'll hear the outro of one show right before the intro of the new show.
Makes for an easy comparison.

But as for why this was done, I have only wild guesses. Maybe Earle Hagen
was playing around with orchestration and ended up with two versions in two
different keys that he liked. Or maybe it has something to do with a studio
paying for two different versions. Or maybe Earle thought a lower-key
version would sound more appropriate for the closing. Or (most likely)
someone else will have a better answer!

I don't know if this has ever come up before in this forum, but has anyone
