In reading the post describing the "post-stroke Floyd" I am reminded of Howard
McNear's wonderful contributions to the color episodes and how indispensible he
became to the comedic richness of those later shows. Even though the effects of
the stroke were tragically debilitating to the man, the actor Howard McNear
used this as an opportunity to add more depth to the character-notice his
gravelly, sometimes slurred vocal diction and the quirky timing and delivery of
his lines! Also it seems Floyd's thinking is more abstract and mysterious than
before, making his character truly unique. When Floyd appears on the scene, he
has my undivided attention!
