Harry, I agree with you completely. Although I love the episode for other
elements of goodness, I too feel the ladies were being rather vain. When I
sang in the church choir years ago, I too loved wearing those lovely robes;
it was a special feeling. But to hold it over the congregation's head was
selfish I thought. But there were other instances when the writers had Aunt
Bee behaving rather mean-spirited; i.e. the episode where the farmer is
being forced off his land and when Andy supported Howard in the election.
It always amazed me that Andy just didn't tell her to go live somewhere else
if she was going to treat him like dirt. But I guess that's what makes for
interesting programming in some ways. Just my 2 cents worth!
