Here's the scoop the the 1961 police car debate.

I own a 1961 Ford Galaxie and have spent a fortune in making it perfect. A
couple of summers ago my wife and I went to the Smokie Mountains. In
downtown Gatlinsburg, there is a Car Museum. Inside the car museum they have
a 1961
Ford Fairlaine that they say was used on the set. First off the car was
painted in gloss black and white. All of the cars used on the set of TAGS
were
painted in a dull white and black, so as not to interfere with camera shots.
Secondly, the police car in the museum had a bubble window, and fairlaine
emblems. When I realized this I thought they must be wrong and this car
couldn't have been used on TAGS!!!!

I thought I knew right away that this was not the correct car used on TAGS
because I was certain it was a galaxie like all of the other years used on the
show.

So I like most of you, have always thought that TAGS only used Galaxies. I
went home and started watching tags episodes, to my dismay, it was indeed
true that they used a 1961 Fairlaine.

The 1961 Galaxies and Fairlaines are identical in body style!!!!! But the
only difference is that the Fairlaines had rear BUBBLE WINDOWS........so the
car used in the 1961 season is indeed without a doubt a fairlaine.

I love my 1961 galaxie and have spent over $25,000 restoring it. Most
people don't know the difference! I have only run into a handful of people
who
have realized this. They were car nutts and knew every little detail about
fords.

Just this past fall my wife and I were fortunate enough to drive Richard O.
Linke and his wife Bettina in the Ohio University Homecoming Parade. Mr.
Linke was the grand marshall of the parade and we got to drive him. It was
indeed an honor. For those of you who don't know who he is, he was Andy
Griffith's personal manager and executive producer of TAGS. He also managed
Jim
Nabors, Maggie Peterson, and Ken Berry, all stars from our favorite show.

Mr. Linke was so impressed with my car and even stated it was one of the
finest he had ever seen and was a true replica. My galaxie replica even
slipped
by his keen eye!

I hope this clears things up about the patrol car debate!
