Hello Mayberry friends!
In answer to the question about the saying "Bread & Butter" I think it
originated as a superstition. When walking with a friend or loved one, if you
are temporarily separated by something, usually a pole or a person, and are
forced to allow that object or person to come between you, one or both of you
needs to say, "Bread & Butter" OR...... as the saying goes, the two of you will
risk a personal separation, or will have a rift. The commonly thought reasoning
behind this, is that, when a person or object comes between you, if you
immediately mention two things that go together, you will fend off the bad luck
of separation. It could be "Salt & Pepper", "Cheese & Crackers", etc. But the
most common is "Bread & Butter"
But do you want to know what "really gets my jaw mussels working"?
Every time my Darling Person and I find ourselves in the afore mentioned
situation, he invariably will say, "Butter Bread"! I just "Hate It When He's
Facetious"!
You All Have A Mayberry Day!
