I think this is a tradeoff of added complexity / slight increase in allocation time vs speed of mallinfo. Another aspect is that we might change the allocator at some point (in fact I know Damjan was looking at this), so any optimization like this might be lost in the future. I am curious to better understand why this blocks your workers though: usually in VPP, we avoid memory allocations in the datapath. Of course it does sometime happens, but usually in an amortized fashion: you might need to allocate some memory at some point, but once allocated you should try to reuse it and avoid allocations. So generally speaking, your workers should not block because mallinfo is running. Best ben
