Four years ago, before Rossi - there were 3-4 threads ongoing on vortex about a couple of amazing papers from Dr. Nabil Lawandy - one of which describes the formation of proton pairs - and a dense accumulation of like charge - somewhat like Holmlid and Miley have done with IRH. This goes a long way towards explaining the Arata-Zhang and Ahern results, where there was a ceramic support adjacent to nickel alloy nanoparticles. The oxide in close proximity to a spillover catalyst is important.
In thinking back on this now, in the context of DDL, Mills, Rossi and the nature of gain, it would seem that Lawandy's proton pair can possibly explain the gain in some forms of LENR intuitively in conjunction with the DDL. He mentions nuclear fusion as an option with deuterium. But when there is no indicia of fusion, the bound protons could arguably attract electrons and go straight to the DDL in a "backdoor" formative way. The release of energy of the DDL formed this way should be adequate to explain gain. There is a signature x-ray to provide falsification of this hypothesis. Here is one paper which Jed put on the LENR site http://lenr-canr.org/acrobat/LawandyNMinteractio.pdf Here is one of the several threads which led to it - but the paper is not really about LENR. http://www.mail-archive.com/vortex-l%40eskimo.com/msg39506.html >From 1981 to 1999, Dr. Lawandy was Professor of Engineering and Physics at Brown University. He holds a B.A. in Physics, MSc and PhD in Chemistry, all from Johns Hopkins. He has authored over 170 peer reviewed scientific papers and is an inventor on 52 US and 27 foreign patents. At last notice, he was President & CEO of Spectra Systems & Solaris Nanosciences. As far as I know, he has never taken an interest in LERN.
