Jones Beene said on Tue, 01 Jun 2010 07:54: To close out this rambling Memorial Day excursion - so far it is all a rationalization that overlooks Fran Roarty's "time distortion", but time distortion can become a factor as well, perhaps the most relevant factor if there really is an excursion near c. Jones, As you correctly point out the velocity excursion is an equivalent abstraction -The Casimir effect changes the Time axis directly not the Pythagorean ratio between the time axis and our spatial axis. The change in the time axis will still contract matter inside the cavity but without the need for near luminal speed on the spatial axis. This is a much more economical way to produce Lorentz like contraction but the small amount of "equivalent acceleration" accumulated by the plates becomes a huge amount of negative "equivalent acceleration" when it abruptly rushes into the tiny cavity like a hole in a ships sail, the atoms in the cavity therefore are sitting atop a gravity hill instead of at the bottom of a gravity well which we normally associate with time dilation so instead of slowing time it is instead accelerated (suggesting relativistic Casimir effect is the basis for catalytic action). Regardless of how you model it the point is that it does tie strongly into the methods you cite because the spatial limits inside the cavity are constantly falling away as this Lorentz like contraction become more pronounced. It even raises the possibility that these contracted protons and deuterons might be able to exist in the lattice by relativistically extending Casimir geometry where "from our perspective" it couldn't possibly exist. The other side of this relativistic perspective is that these atoms inside the cavity are unaware of their contraction except that the walls on either side of the cavity seem to remain a constant distance away even as the atoms progress into the "V" at the bottom of the cavity. This might mean Casimir effect extends down further than standard geometry would predict, even into the Lattice, if these contracted states are somehow maintained outside of the cavity then even a lattice could appear as large as the cavity to the shrunken atoms. I prefer a chemical bond to oppose this change in mass but recognize the other methods you mention are equally valid. Thank you for your earlier reply which dove tailed The Light Velocity Casimir Effect http://arxiv.org/ftp/physics/papers/9911/9911062.pdf into the Calvet paper http://www.journaloftheoretics.com/Articles/3-1/calvet-final.htm It never occurred to me!
