THE remains of Noah's Ark have been discovered 13,000ft up a Turkish
mountain, it has been claimed.
A group of Chinese and Turkish evangelical explorers say they have
found wooden remains on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey.

They claim carbon dating proves the relics are 4,800 years old —
around the same time the ark was said to be afloat.

Yeung Wing-Cheung, from the Noah's Ark Ministries International
research team, said: "It's not 100 per cent that it is Noah's Ark, but
we think it is 99.9 per cent that this is it."

I like the picture with the article. How in the world did Noah manage to pick up the penguins? And keep them alive in such a warm climate? (Answer: It was a *miracle,* dummy!)

And where are the dinosaurs? How many species were on the ark? If I'm correct, these people don't believe in evolution, so there would have to be every species that currently exists, plus all that there are fossil records for.

I can easily imagine someone collecting "all the animals," meaning all the useful animals that were handy, on an ark. But every species?

Of course, the researchers aren't responsible for that picture. That was the Sun, that bastion of careful, responsible and sober journalism.

I see that a number of commenters noticed the issue about the number of species, and that someone was defending the biblical account by pointing out that "all the animals" could mean just those that were local, and probably would also say the same thing about the flood and about the submerged mountains as being the same kind of rhetorical device. Imagine telling a story to your kids .... and that's what was done with this story, for generation after generation....

One other teeny tiny problem. If radiocarbon dating works for 4800 years, why doesn't it work before that? Yeah, I know. God created it all in situ, carbon isotope ratio, fossil record, etc., to test our faith. But, then, how do we know it wasn't all created, like, say, yesterday, with all our memories, etc.? And our faith or lack of same.

Answer: we don't know jack. But we can probably rely on certain assumptions, like, I wasn't born yesterday and, if you are reading this, neither were you.
