Here is a side comment regarding the background of many commentators who
make their way to this list, in particular - and to the field of
alternative-energy in general. This generalization goes way beyond Horace
and Abd.

I hope it is PC <g>. Usually generalizations of this kind smack of bigotry,
but anyway...

The background and early education of many of us, seems to less towards
physics, and far more towards information technology of one kind or another.
Obviously there is overlap between those fields but still ... there could be
something to this 'leaning'.

I am not a sociologist but it might make a good study for one. This is
probably not coincidental. It probably has to do with going through an "age"
where the "seemingly impossible" in technology became reality in a very
short time, where rules were made to be broken and where the most important
things were done in someone's garage -- and then transposing that underlying
mentality and expectation towards what was obviously going to be the "next
big thing" for our society - i.e. energy (or lack thereof).

Anyone with a brain, by the time of the Arab Oil Embargo in the late 60's
could see this coming - yet most of our elected politicians only gave it lip
service instead of mounting a major proactive effort.
