Thanks for this update.
I saw Thane demonstrate a related device in Feb. 2008 at an undergraduate lab 
in electrical engineering at the University of Ottawa. Evidently the research 
of this amateur continues to impressstaff at the university because it looks 
like he is in the same lab.
